Children's Swimming Lessons

Learn to swim

The Sovereign Centre Follows the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme and Awards Scheme.

For school age children this this programme runs through Stages 2-7.  Each of which have a set of skills and techniques that children learn to improve their ability in the water.  Children can progress through the scheme at their own pace, and our continuous assessment allows them to move up to the next level as soon as they are ready to.

Children will earn badges and certificates to celebrate each level passed.

Stage 2: suitable for children who are in full time education with no previous experience, developing safe entries into the water, including jumping in, basic floating, traveling and unaided rotation to regain an upright position.

Stage 3: for children over 5 and who have completed stage 2. Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 meters on their front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.

Stage 4: for children who have completed 10 meters on their front and back and who have completed stage 3. Developing the understanding of a range of skills refining kicking technique for all strokes and swimming 20 meters.

Stage 6: for children who can swim 25 meters on their front and backs and have achieved stage 5. Developing effective swimming skills including co-ordinated breathing, developing water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.
