Covid 19 Guidance for Using the Centre

We are strictly following the Government and Public Health England operating instructions, and are committed to doing all we possibly can to make sure we provide covid-safe facilities for you to enjoy.  However we also need you, our customers to behave responsibly, and to adhere to the safety measures we have in place.  Below are details of some of the measures we have in place for the safety of customers and staff.

  • Please do not come to the centre if you feel unwell with any Covid-19 symptoms

  • We have introduced hand sanitising points in multiple key locations, please use these and wash your hands as often as possible during your visit.

  • Please be patient and observe the social distancing guidance notices and floor markings around the centre.

  • One way systems operate in the workout studio, gym and sports hall, however in areas where we are unable to put this in place, we ask you to please take care when moving around, and allow a 2m distance to other users.

  • We have deep cleaned prior to opening, and increased our cleaning schedules.  We will be cleaning throughout the day with a virucidal disinfectant.

  • We have introduced plastic screens in the reception area for both customer and staff safety.

  • Our staff are all kept informed with what is required of them to ensure a safe environment.

  • We are fortunate to have a fresh air handling system which we have been able to switch to be 100% fresh air.  This will minimise the risk of transfer of germs through air circulation.  Our air conditioning units have also received a deep clean and full service so that they are in tip top condition.

We hope that you will feel reassured by our measures and welcome any feedback for further improvements that we can make.  Below are full details of the member journey that we have put in place to be able to welcome you back.

Arrival

  • On arrival at the centre we have distancing indicators to assist in a safe queueing system.  We ask that if the entrance hall is full you please wait outside the centre on the yellow marked area until it is safe to enter.

  • Members should scan membership cards as usual for entry.  If you have lost your card please wait in the queue for reception and request a new one.  It is important that cards are scanned for track and trace even if the central gate is open.  If your card does not scan and the turnstile gate go green please see reception.

  • Once inside the centre please follow the directional markers to move safely around.

Masks

  • From Wednesday 14th October it will be mandatory to wear a face covering whilst in all public areas of our centre.

  • Please note it is not necessary to where a face covering when exercising or eating/drinking.

  • It will not be necessary to wear a face covering once you are changed and heading to/from the pool from the changing room, however if you were to want to purchase a product from the cafe partway through the swim we would request a face covering be worn whilst in the queue.  It is also not required whilst on the gym floor moving between equipment.

  •  If you are exempt then it will not be required.  Staff will be reminding customers about the need to wear face coverings so please politely inform them that you are exempt.

  • Our staff will also be following these guidelines.

Cleaning

  • We have deep cleaned prior to opening, and increased our cleaning schedules.  We will be cleaning throughout the day with a virucidal disinfectant.

  • High touch areas will be wiped and changing rooms checked every half an hour.

  • Areas can become dirty immediately after our checks have been made and we may not be aware, so if you are unhappy with the standard of cleaning at any time during your visit, please notify any member of staff who will ensure it is dealt with.  We are committed to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.

Swimmer Guidance

Swim Changing

  • To support social distancing, we will be running a ‘beach style turn up and swim’ option to minimise time spent in the changing rooms.  Please can all customers come ready changed (costume under clothing) – cubicles or individual changing rooms will be available but the aim is to reduce the time customers spend in these areas.

  • We encourage swimmers to shower directly before leaving home. There will be two showers available in the Gala Pool changing area but it is preferred they are not used where possible.

  • Take any hand sanitiser, water, equipment/aids with you (floats, kick boards etc.) ensuring it is clean and identifiable as yours before you arrive.  These can be left on the end of your lane.

  • Entrance to the Gala Pool changing rooms will be the same as usual, through the large double doors and into the Male or Female changing rooms.  There will be 2m distancing marked out and small cubicles will be isolated to help with social distancing.  Please note the Family Village changing rooms next to the Fun Pool will remain closed.

  • Due to the layout of the changing rooms we are unable to facilitate a one way system and request that all customers keep to social distancing and use common sense to avoid pinch points

  • The disabled change will remain closed, however customers wishing to gain entrance should please enquire at reception

  • Please exit the changing room towards the Gala Pool locker area.

Swim Lockers

  • To ensure that we are able to properly sanitise the poolside area on a regular basis no belongings are to be brought poolside and all customers wishing to use the pool must use the lockers provided.  This also includes items left on the window ledge, as this impedes the airflow into the building as well as restricting our ability to sanitise.

  • Lockers are available for the usual 20p per use.

Poolside Entrance and Exit:

  • Swimmers will gain entrance to the gala pool via the boom diving pool, the boom will be a one way route

  • Swimmers exiting the pool will continue along the boom and walk around the boom pool back to the changing rooms

Lane swimming:

  • Lane swimming sessions are for adults and children if they can swim continuous lengths.  No non swimmers can attend these sessions.

  • The Pool will be split into 3 larger double lanes, slow, medium and fast and each lane has a maximum capacity of 10 people

  • Each lane will have a directional signage at the end to indicate the way that you swim up and back.  Please follow this guidance.

  • Lane swimming etiquette:

  • People of different standards and abilities will use the pool. Please respect their right to enjoy their swim.  Do not make physical contact with other participants

  • Swim in a lane appropriate to your swimming ability/speed.

  • Please follow the direction of the lane boards and swim in single file. This will help to prevent accidents and ensure participants can maintain a safe social distance.

  • Please do not pass a swimmer mid length.  Faster swimmers should be allowed to pass at the end of each length. The slower swimmer should move to the edge of the lane and turn their head away.

  • If you are continually being passed or the one doing the passing please consider moving to a slower or faster lane.

  • If you need to take a rest, please move to the edge of the lane and allow others to maintain social distance.

  • If using equipment such as kick boards or pull buoys, consider moving to a slower lane temporarily so you do not hinder others swimming full strokes.

  • Lifeguards are here for everyone’s safety. If they ask you to adhere to a request please cooperate with them.

Open swimming:

  • Everyone is allowed

  • Lane ropes will be removed

  • The maximum bather load for this session will be 41 people

  • Participants from the same household are not required to socially distance from each other but will be required to maintain a social distance from others

  • These areas will be cleaned regularly, but please use the sanitiser prior to touching the fountains.

  • The café will be closed but there will be some vending machines selling water and other drinks available.

Changing Area’s

  • We are asking that customers please come in your workout clothes and bring as few personal belongings into the centre as possible.

  • Lockers will be available but it would be preferential if these were not used, we will be closing off alternate lockers to allow for regular cleaning.

  • The toilets will be open but showers will not be available in line with the government guidelines for operators.

  • Please take care to socially distance when entering and exiting the toilets, as this is an area we are unable to operate as a one way system.

  • Signage will be in place to remind customers to take care and we will be increasing cleaning in these areas.

Workout Classes

  • To allow for safe distancing we will be running classes in both our workout studio, and half of the sports hall, which will be sectioned off.  The studio will be set up for either indoor cycling or yoga, and the sports hall will run all other classes.

  • A one way system for entry and exit to the studio will be in place, and classes are staggered in the sports hall to allow people to safely enter and exit.  We ask that customers please arrive on time and not early or late so that there is no waiting around the entrance area.  Our instructors will be taking you into the hall at the time of your class, please do not enter it before.

  • We will be running classes at regular intervals throughout the day, with time allowed between for cleansing of equipment.

  • There will be no booking system for the period of 25th July to 31st August as we are still in the process of getting our operating systems in place.  Please go to reception no more than 15 minutes before the class is due to start, and you will be issued with a ticket or band.  If you are attending more than one class and they are back to back, with insufficient time to return to reception, you will be issued with additional bands.

  • We will be ensuring we run regular enough sessions of our most popular Les Mils classes such as Body Combat, Body Step, Body Balance and Body Pump.

  • Even with social distancing regulations in place, the sports hall can allow for a high capacity of participants in most classes in this space.  We do not anticipate overcrowding, however will continue to monitor this and amend where necessary.

  • To reassure our regular class users, we will be reintroducing an online booking system in the coming weeks and are working hard in the background to get this in place.  For now all classes are on a first come first served basis, we will be reviewing this and will make changes where necessary.

The Gym

  • The gym area cannot facilitate a strict one way system, as it is made up of multiple small areas.  We are asking that members please take care and be respectful of other users when moving around this space.

  • We have moved some of our gym kit to the sports hall in order to space out and allow for social distancing, and some equipment will be closed off where it is not possible to space them out.

  • Please note spotting in the weight room is not permitted as this would be against social distancing guidelines.

  • We will be increasing our cleaning schedules in these areas, but are also asking that all customers bring a towel, and use the cleaning products provided to wipe down equipment before and after use.

  • We will not be operating a booking system for a slot in the gym, but our staff will be on hand to monitor numbers and we may have to impose limits if the areas are clearly becoming crowded.
